I am a colo-rectal patient and have been on Chemo for 4 years. Just a few years ago I was on the VA system and I was having a lot of pain. I thought that I should call and make sure they knew I was on my way. When I called the whole phone system was down. I am about 150 miles from the hospital. Instead, I decided to go to a local hospital- University Medical Center. That was the best decision I have ever made. This is what lead up to what happened next.
I had a heart attack 14 years ago and a 4 artery-bypass at the same time. I survived and did fairly well.
The day in May that I decided to go to the UMC in Lubbock,Tx. I got to the emergency room and checked in and was taken into a room. As I was getting on the table I had a sudden cardiac arrest and died. They told my wife that I had less than 1% chance of survival. I spent the next three weeks, in ICUs. They had found a 6 inch tumor in my colon and took it out and now I have a colostomy now. I have been through all the chemo. So my doctor says. in the last 4 years and I am still a stage IV Dukes D. I am very tired and I have chemo brain bad. More to come on my ChemoBrain.
